First off, my Santa Fe is way overdue for an oil change. For the past week or so my car has been driving a bit more rough than usual, sounds very loud under the hood and there is almost like a clanking noise from time to time. My oil light has been on, but that is it. And the car won't accelerate as fast as it normally does.
Well, last night, I was driving down the highway (in the rain) and I heard this noise, almost like a rumble underneath the car and the car just stopped. I could barely turn the steering wheel. When I came to a stop, I removed the key from the ignition and then put it back in and tried to start the car back up. Nothing happened. My lights, stereo and all were still working but the car wouldn't turn over.
My check engine light did not come on at all, nor was there any smoke coming from under the hood. My temp gauge didn't show that there was any overheating, the gauge was right were it was supposed to be so it was registering.
I'm sure it is lack of oil, but any clue to what kind of repairs I am looking at? The car is at the garage, but they haven't been able to look at it yet.
